The scene is in the court of a hospital modified from Leyden. " Sherrington Der Herausgeber Otto van Heurne (1577-1652), Sohn von Jan van Heurne (Heurnius) (1543-1601), "am 8. September 1577 in Utrecht geboren, studirte und promovirte in Leyden 1601. Nach dem Tode seines Vaters wurde er dessen Nachfolger zum Prof. med. in Leyden. Er ist der Stifter des klinischen Unterrichtes in Leyden ("Collegium publicum, in qua ad morbos caute curandos studiosi in nosecomio instruuntur") und ertheilte diesen in so ausgezeichneter Weise, das seine Methode völlig mit der noch in der ersten Hälfte des 19. Jahrhunderts befolgten übereinstimmt. Er starb am 24. Juli 1652, nach dem er mehr als 50 Jahre als Professor med. fungirt hatte. Er besorge eine schon durch seinen Vater theilweise vorbereitete Ausgabe der "Medicina universa" von Fernelius (Utrecht 1656; Genf 1679) und fügte einige durch ihn selbst wahrgenommene "Casus rariores, quas in diario practico annotavit" hinzu. Als Student hatte er schoneine Compilation "De barbarica philosophia, libri duo" veröffentlicht. Heurne verdient gewiss unter die Medici poetae gerechnet zu werden, da er ein vortreffliches Gedicht verfertigte "Propemticon in discessum illustri et ampl. viri Jacobi Dycki" (1617) und hat eine sehr interessante Sammlung handschriftlicher Briefe hinterlassen."
