Needle Work. Zustand: Very Good. 18 x 14 1/2 inch octagonal original pictorial needle work art showing the Madonna & Child with rosary and flowers in hand surrounded by little cherubs. This work of art is highlighted with a great variety of colored threads and seems to have employed a great variety of sewing techniques and textures. There is some very modest wear at the infant's legs but overall condition remains excellent. The work was mounted at some point to a lightweight wood backing. A very unusual piece of religious art.

[Japan n.d. ca 1900-10]. A fine silk scroll, 12 erotic color painted images, 37 x 222 cm., exceptionally clean, stunningly colored graphics, fine-line brush detail, skillfully painted & executed,a very bright example. * * RARE ORIGINAL ART * * . *** **** *** . . MEIJI ERA HAND PAINTED EROTIC COLOR HAND SCROLL . . . PAINTED ON THE FINEST BRIGHT WHITE SILK . * Unsigned as usual. The public issuance of Shunga [erotic] pictures during the Meiji era was banned by the government. Therefor it was common practice for artists to either leave their work unsigned, or use a false "Go" [studio name] to avoid exposing themselves to prosecution. . This is a highly erotic color graphic scroll. It depicts twelve examples, in clear, bright and superb color, obviously painted by a skilled and probably famous artist. . As usual, the women show considerable pink flush around the face & body, indicating highly charged sexual feelings. This is a common point in Japanese erotica, showing women in a high state of ecstasy and pleasure. Men are also vulnerable to the same feelings and are also so pictured. . Some of the men wear the typical long moustache popular in the Meiji [1867-1912] period. Several women expose their red under wear Kimono in a flash of erotic color, increasing the sensuality of the erotic scene. They wear the typical coiffeur popular of the Meiji times. . *** Scenes from the right to the left: Note, all of the men exhibit exceptionally large phallus, typical of Japanese Shunga [erotic] art. . 1. A Meiji man makes love to a prostitute. She wears her Obi [belt] tied in the front for easy removal, an indicator of her profession. . 2. A young boy makes love to a middle-age woman. . 3. A willing young woman makes love with a youthful merchant. . 4. A Meiji man with moustache and Fundoshi [man's cloth genital cover] makes love to a young girl who faces away in shyness. . 5. A bald-headed man [priest?] makes love with a woman who has her eyes closed in ecstasy. Both are highly pink flushed on their face and entire bodies. . 6. A Meiji gentleman makes love with a middle-age woman. . 7. A couple are fully engaged in love-making. She has a package of Chirishi [toilet] paper adjacent to her in the ready to wipe away the love juices. . 8. A young man is fascinated with his lover's vagina lips and fondles them, while she holds his super large penis. . 9. A young man makes love with an elderly, gray-haired woman, he sucks her nipple, while penetrating her vagina. She closes her eyes, and utters an unknown sound with her mouth partially open, in pink ecstasy. . 10. A man enters his lover from the rear, she folds her arms as she encourages his entry into her vagina. . 11. A very well-dressed man fingers his lover's vagina, in readiness to enter her with a huge phallus. . 12. A nearly nude couple engage in love-making, both are pink-flushed, her coiffeur a flowing behind her. . *** Color photos are posted to our website. . *** CONDITION: This is in excellent plus condition. There are 4 very tiny Sumi-ink droplets between image 4 & 5, in the margin, of minimal effect. . The fine silk is of a very high quality and thinness. It is very tightly hand woven with much skill. The horizontal edges are woven with a 'finish' edge on both sides, keeping the whole cloth aligned and square, a lovely example, using very high quality silk cloth. . A very much better, superior than average painting on silk of the period. Seldom found in such superb and clean condition. A RARE EXAMPLE ! . *** REFERENCES: .
