Cases include the escape of Ratan Lall who bought some opium which was recovered in a room in Hira Chand's Sarai at Ajmer; various named individuals in the property of "a notorious smuggler", and arrests for opium at Kotah and Ajmer Railway Station. Good, tanned, creased with neat Hindi ms to the verso, and discreet tape repair.

The first leaf is poor with large ink spills (text just about visible), and a small possibly cigarette burn. The rest are fair to good with minor loss (not affecting content).

Fair to good, with Hindi ms to p80, tears with partial loss and soiling to the final leaf.

Folio, [ii] + 39 + [i]. Stitched. Text clear and complete. Fair, on lightly-aged paper, with slight staining to fore-edge. Title-page bearing stamp and withdrawal stamp of the University of Hull.

Without wrappers, but still well bound together. Minor stain in upper right corner, some old annotations, else in (very) good condition. Text in Latin. Please see description or ask for photos.

Two half-page engravings: 15.5 and 17.6 x 22.7 cm on a single newspaper leaf, explanatory text for each engraving overleaf, a top corner chipped, edgewear, sheet toned, sound condition. Engravings prepared for "The Illustrated London News" during the Second Opium War (1856-1860). The upper engraving illustrates Allied French and British Forces attempting to scale the wall during the Second Battle of Canton (1857). The associated text overleaf claims the feat for the French. Black and white wood engraving prepared for The Illustrated London News (trimmed) 16.7 x 27.7cms (including caption and margins), a few marginal spots, unrelated text on the verso, the image in very good condition. Dramatic image of an incident on the Canton (now Pearl) River near Guangzhou, between a Chinese galley and a British vessel from H.M.S. Amethyst, during the Second Opium War (1857-1859).
