Il se convertit au christianisme à la fin du IIe siècle et devient le plus éminent théologien de Carthage. Auteur prolifique, catéchète, son influence est grande dans l'Occident chrétien. Il est le premier auteur latin à utiliser le terme de Trinité, dont il développe une théologie précise. Il est ainsi considéré comme l'un des plus grands théologiens de la chrétienté de son temps. Si tratta di un compendio che raccoglie vari frammenti e passi di antichi scrittori sulle condizioni degli agri e dei diritti di confine, tra cui Dolabella, Isidoro, Aggeno, Vitale e la trascrizione delle "Legis Mamiliae" e "Legis agrariae servilianae". L'avvocato e studioso francese Nicolas Rigault (Rigaltius, 1577-1654) divenne bibliotecario della biblioteca reale, dal 1613 al Consiglio parlamentare di Metz, poi dal procuratore generale alla Camera di Nancy e infine direttore del paesaggio di Metz. Editio princeps of the original Greek text, published with an annotated Latin translation by Nicolas Rigault (Rigaltius 1577-1654), a distinguished French classical scholar, who succeeded Casabon as Royal librarian in Paris. Onosander (Onesandros), a pedantic Greek philosopher of the first century A.D., was the chief authority for the military writings of several Byzantine emperors. His work in 42 chapters, entitled 'The General' explains the broad principles of command, the formation of an army, the preparation for battle, and other aspects of warfare from an ethical standpoint. 'The earliest military treatise wherein so much stress is laid upon the commander's duties, the morale of the troops, the ethical side of warfare' (Sarton). The text became very popular during the Renaissance and was translated into Latin (1494), German (1532), French and Italian (1546), and English (1563). The English translation (from Cotta's Italian version by Peter Whitehorne - see Cockle 14) was one of the earliest books on the subject published in Elizabethan England. It is accompanied here by a tract 'On the vanity of idols' by StCyprian, bishop of Carthage (d.258). The editor, Nicolas Rigault (15771654), served as librarian to LouisXIII. Adrienne Du Puis (née Brillet, d.1658) was the wife and successor of the Parisian printer Mathurin Du Puis (d.1643), this volume being published in the first year in which she operated independently. Her publications ranged widely, encompassing genealogy, law, and medicine, in addition to theology, and included an edition of Claude Saumaise's defence of CharlesI (Defensio regia pro CaroloI) and John Milton's response (Defensio pro populo Anglicano). First and only edition of a collection of texts on land surveying and agricultural law from classical antiquity, known as the Corpus agrimensorum Romanorum, here edited by Willem Goes (1611-1686). The classical authors include Aggenus Urbicus, Frontinus, Hyginus Gromaticus and Siculus Flaccus. The texts survived through a sixth-century manuscript that is now held in the Herzog August Bibliothek in Wolfenbüttel. Willem Goes (Guilelmus Goesius) was a leading 17th century Dutch legal scholar, who played a major role in Dutch history as one of the judges in the trial of Cornelis de Wit. He added to his edition of the Corpus agrimensorum Romanorum an index and a long history of agriculture during the Roman era. Also included is the commentary on the classical agraro-judicial texts by Nicolas Rigault (1614). The information was crucial for deciding any disputes concerning the boundaries of lands, but also provides a theoretical basis for landscape gardening and arboriculture. The illustrations depict various ways of geometrically laying out boundaries in landscapes and gardens, also illustrated are different types of trees and pruning methods. Der Kaufmann, Jurist und Bibliophile Anderhub (* 1894 - 1946 +) war vielseitiger interessiert, als die versteigerte und katalogisierte Pferdebuch-Sammlung vermuten läßt, er korrespondierte z.B. mit dem Juristen, Kulturhistoriker und Bibliophilen Otto Deneke (1875 - 1956), oder dem klassischen Philologen Ulrich von Wilamowitz-Möllendorff (1848 - 1931). Er veröffentlichte auch selbst auf dem Gebiet der klassischen Philologie, siehe z.B. seine Dissertation "Der Begriff der Dikaiosyne in Platons Politeia" (Mainz 1919) und "Joco-Seria, aus den Papieren eines reisenden Kaufmanns. Gewidmet den Freunden des Hauses Kalle & Co." Wiesbaden-Biebrich, Kalle & Co. (1941), gedruckt in der "Hauserpresse - Hans Schaefer", handelt es sich um ". scherzhaft erzählte und illustrierte Begebenheiten aus dem Leben des Autors. Mit Übersetzungen aus dem Griechischen und Lateinischen ." und war durchaus auch mathematisch interessiert, wie seine Thesen zu Theodoros von Kyrene in der zuvor geannten Publikation zeigen, vergl. hierzu u.a. "The Beginnings of Greek Mathematics" von A. Szabó (Springer, 1978), S. 55 ff. In The Irrationals" von Julian Havil (Princeton University Press, 2012) wird dem "amateur German mathematician J. H. Anderhub" postum ein kleines Denkmal als Beiträger (". may have originated with an elusive article .") zu diesem Teilaspekt gesetzt (S. 32). Zu diesem Interessensgebiet paßt unser hier angebotenes Buch perfekt, erklärt den neueren Einband und auch den Verzicht auf die "Nota" und "Glossae", zumal die Illustrationen des Hauptbandes sämtlich vorhanden sind, im fehlenden Textband sind nur zwei kleinere Holzschnitte enthalten. Ein vollständiges Exemplar wurde übrigens von der Bayerischen Staatsbibliothek digitalisiert und ist online einsehbar. Der Band behandelt die Land- und Grenzvermessung am Beispiel der römischen Agrimensoren. Der französische Advokat und Gelehrte Nicolas Rigault (Rigaltius, 1577 - 1654) war außerorentlich gebildet, er wurde Bibliothekar der königlichen Bibliothek, ab 1613 Parlamentsrat in Metz, dann Generalstaatsanwalt bei der Kammer in Nancy und zuletzt Intendant der Landschaft Metz.
