In den WarenkorbHardcover. Zustand: Very Good. Very good Everyman's Library edition of these texts. No date but circa 1910 judging by the elaborate floral pine panel. The text block is holding very firm. The cloth is a little faded but the spine lettering is still clear. The cloth is split at the foot of the spine ( about 3 cm) but not affecting the hinge. Dust accumulation to the edges of the text block commensurate with the book's age.

In den Warenkorb8vo, (175mm.), xii,(13-)103p. Contemporary (?original) quarter sheep, backstrip banded in gilt, French-shell marbled paper sides, worn - particularly at the corners, previous owner's signature (of Sarah Langton) on the front free endleaf. "I have been so fortunate, during a long course of teaching, as to give my pupils a true relish for the Study of History.' (Author's preface.) First published in 1819 this example of juvenile historical literature ran to a number on editions until the 1890s. The chronology of the text ends in 1830 while the 'chronological chart' mentioned in the title is not present in the British Library copy of the 1819 edition where it is noted that their copy is also 'without the chart' (as apparently are other editions listed on Library Hub) and therefore it may have been issued separately.

In den WarenkorbHardcover. Zustand: Fair. Sowerby, J; Sowerby, J de C; Salter, J W (illustrator). 3rd Edition. Volume Eight of the Third Edition of Sowerby's English Botany. 296pp, plus 206 hand-coloured copper-engraved lithographs (plates mclxxviii to mccclxxxiv). 4to. . Half-bound in leather over silk moire with gilt rules and lettering (boards strong and robust but worn along edges and spine joints, rubbed through on corners). The first 16 leaves are detached, as are pages 285-288, and binding fragile. Some minor indentations on page edges, else internally clean and bright. The botanical prints in particular remain fresh and bright. A good candidate for some restoration. English Botany was a major publication of British plants comprising a 36 volume set, issued in 267 monthly parts over 23 years from 1790 to 1814. The work was conceived, illustrated, edited and published by the botanical illustrator and natural historian, James Sowerby. The complete First Edition (1790-1814) comprises 2,592 hand-coloured, finely detailed, copper-plate engravings and is now rare. The third edition, with some additional plates, saw the introduction of a 'popular section' but the plates were taken from the same copper plates used for the first edition which, had by this time, deteriorated. . Reasonable offers welcome.
