Frontispiece portrait of the artist by Arnold Genthe. Introduction on pp. 3-6, "The Art of Antonio Argnani. From an Italian commentar…y by Mario Morasso, of Rome." The introduction, which is highly appreciative, zeroes in on the milieu of Argani's work, what would nowadays be termed Eurotrash (at least, that's what we call them here in New York City): "an elite of society (one might say of a new race) which is gradually forming over the old divisions of race and nationality . . . who do not belong to any country . . . a community which is spread all the world over, but united by thousands of invisible and tenacious ties, formed from fashion, luxury, amusements and also a little snobbishness." Pp. 3-31 reproduce Argnani's portraits, among the subjects are the royal family of Roumania (Romania), the King of Greece, Maurice Rostand (son of the playwright), well-to-do children, and fashionable and titled ladies. Tout le beau monde before it all came crashing down. Morasso was a Futurist and interested in elites. We venture to say this catalogue is rare; we could find very little other information about the artist. Note: In 2015, an exhibition devoted to Argnani as a portraitist of the Belle Epoque took place in the Pinacoteca of Faenza, Italy, his birthplace.
