From the Folies and Moulin to some of the greatest stages of the early twentieth century. For many a woman, to be remembered for her legs would be a dispiriting experience, not so for Mistinguette whose legs were insured for 500 000 francs. She was proud of that. When she died Cocteau noted drily that it was appropriate that she should 'crumble away' as had the days in which she had shone brightly. So, too this copy is shabby and much aged. The atmospheric dustjacket is worn and torn all about. It is loosely intact. The cover is defiantly assured. Inside, the contents are foxed throughout, but bear evidence of much contented readership.
