Ofrecemos una magnífica traducción española con abundantes notas críticas, así como fuentes teológicas y clásicas, que pone al alcance de la mano esta obra clásica, hasta ahora sólo accesible a los especialistas. La edición ha sido dirigida y coordinada por el profesor Juan Belda Plans, especialista en Historia de la Teología, y más en concreto en el siglo XVI español. La obra va precedida de una amplia Introducción general de carácter histórico y teológico, que sirve de pórtico de entrada a tan bella construcción literaria, a cargo del mismo profesor. El presente trabajo forma parte de un plan de investigación trazado por el prof. Belda, y constituye como una segunda entrega del mismo. La primera fue en el año 2000, con la importante monografía «La Escuela de Salamanca y la renovación de la Teología en el siglo XVI», publicada también por la BAC. La traducción española ha corrido a cargo de un equipo de especialistas filólogos, cuyo primer producto literario ha sido posteriormente cotejado y perfilado en colaboración con teólogos e historiadores de la Teología. Una idea sintética, pero muy acertada, acerca del significado cultural del «De locis theologicis» nos la ofrece Marcelino Menéndez y Pelayo, cuando afirma: «Melchor Cano trazó, en estilo digno de Marco Tulio, el plan de una enciclopedia teológica, remontándose al análisis de nuestras facultades de conocer, y buscando en ellas el \"organon\" para la nueva disciplina, que, merced a sus esfuerzos, alcanzó carácter plenamente científico y positivo antes que ninguna otra ciencia» («Ensayos de crítica filosófica» [CSIC, Madrid 1948] 230).
