Original publishe…r's printed wrappers stapled as issued with titles in black to front cover. An excellent copy of André Thirion's polemic pamphlet responding to Georges Hugnet's critical review of Thirion's own memoir 'Révolutionnaires sans Révolution'. From the edition limited to 60 numbered copies on papier vélin chiffon signed by Thirion in pencil and with the original etching signed and numbered in pencil by Henri Maccheroni. This pamphlet was issued by André Thirion in response to Hugnet's review of his old friend Thirion's memoir 'Révolutionnaire sans Révolution'. Hugnet published 'A Propos de Révolutionnaires sans Révolution', in his edition of collected essays and journalism 'Pleins et Déliés' in 1972. Hugnet had accused Thirion of self-aggrandisement, megalomania and of being little more than an impostor. Thirion in the present work accuses Hugnet of similar traits, writing and telling 'contrevérités notoires', finding 'la lucidité dans le vin rouge!' and adds: 'Georges Hugnet doit au Surréalisme son importante collection et une petite notoriété'. As Jean Petithory notes: 'La postérité donnera raison à l'un ou l'autre'. Maccheroni's original etching, on a sheet larger than the pamphlet itself, is numbered at lower left, signed at lower right and titled beneath (all in pencil): 'Visage en forme de Hugnet'. Printed in black against an orange background, the etching shows the pubic area of a woman with legs crossed, the bottom of the etching is inscribed in the plate 'GRANDE BARBE' with one thigh inscribed 'OEIL DROIT, the other 'OEIL GAUCHE' while the area where her legs cross is inscribed 'NEZ'; Maccheroni's implication is explicit and seems at odds with his wider oeuvre which most usually demonstrates a tender affection for its object(s).

He was thus of an age to be a Maoist and militant in 1968, identifications he retains to this day. He published his first book (on Francis Ponge) in 1981, and became a professor at l'Université d'Aix-en-Provence as well as at the prestigious l'École normale supérieure de Lyon where he would direct the Centre d'études poétiques from 1999-2009. In addition to his scholarly work on modern and contemporary French, Arabic, and American poetry, he would enter the first rank of French poets (or "post-poets," as is sometimes said), aesthetically affiliated with peers such as Emmanuel Hocquard, Anne-Marie Albiach, and Claude Royet-Journoud." (Kenning Editions) "Jean-Marie Gleize (b. 1946) is among the most influential theoreticians of contemporary experimental French poetry. He calls postpoésie attempts to write poetry as if from the outside, leaving behind lyrical verse, prose poetics, and all forms of essentialism. In the 1990s he developed and applied in his own writing concepts of littéralité and nudité that aimed at quietening down figures, expressivity and subjectivity to let the workings of language and discourse surface as more objective and potent poetic enigmas."
