Direct from the library of the late Hugh Selbourne MD (1906-1973) a noted book collector and diarist. Lacking original dustwrapper. Illustrated, with nine illustrations by Thomas Lowinsky. Lowinsky was an English pinter of Hungarian and South African descent. His work was primarily portraiture, although often painted fantasy scenes. He illustrated several books including Edith Sitwell's Elegy on Dead Fashion. This collection includes Laver's A Stitch in Time, a pastiche of Pope's The Rape of The Lock set in modern times. It also includes his sequel to A Stitch in Time, Love's Progress in addition to Cupid's Changeling. Laver was an English author, critic, art historian and museum curator. He was Keeper of Prints, Drawings and Paintings for the Victoria and Albert Museum for over ten years. To supplement his pay whilst at the Victoria and Albert Museum he wrote and published poetry.
