In den WarenkorbFirst edition. Cover design, layout and the photographic illustration by El Lissitzky. First edition. In publisher's red, illustrated wrappers. 111, (1) p. and a large folding plate of panoramic photomontage. The "Pressa Catalogue", designed by El Lissitzky and illustrated with his long concertina fold-out photomontage. This striking catalogue of the Soviet Pavilion at the International Press Exhibition in Cologne in 1928 contains a 2,3 metre long folding panoramic plate itself a magnificent technical achievement comprising of eighteen sections, presenting the most spectacular design elements of the exterior and interior of the Soviet Pavilion, installations of the exhibition, as well as two large sections of El Lissitzky's 24 metre long, famous photomontage frieze. As the chief artist of the project, Lissitzky was responsible to shape up a revolutionary design for the building of the Soviet Pavilion and for the press exhibition held inside, to introduce and celebrate the Soviet publishing achievements. Architecture, graphic design, typography, photography, and cinematography were all brought together to show the world the progress and importance of the press in post-Revolution Soviet society. It was also Lissitzky who designed entirely the exhibition's accompanying catalogue, the present booklet. It is forwarded by Artemy Bagratovich Khalatov (Chalatow; 18961938) the Commissar of Publishing and the chairman of the State Publishing House, who was executed during the Great Terror. We offer this copy together with two exceedingly scarce flyers, distributed also at the exhibition, under the titles of Die Arbeiter- und Bauernkorrespondenten und die Sowjetpresse and Die Wandzeitung in der Sowjetunion. Both are re-edited versions of chapters the catalogue includes (pp. 5354 and 56). We could not find any reference on them or copies in institutional holdings. [Ref.: Parr/Badger I. pp. 152153.] . Cover with a few light stains, sunned at spine, two small tears at the upper edges. Staples rusted. Corners of the title page dog-eared. The folding plate is slightly worn at the first and third foldings, two tiny holes at eleventh and thirteenth. The second compartment with a trace of an extra folding. Otherwise in fine condition. The one-sheet flyers are folded once, "Die Wandzeitung" is sunned and very slightly chipped at the lower edge, "Die Arbeiter-" is dog-eared, chipped at the upper and the lower section of right side edges, with traces of foldings, otherwise they are in fine condition. In publisher's red, illustrated wrappers. Cover design, layout and the photographic illustration by El Lissitzky. (illustrator).…

Text by A.M. Litvak. 7 parts. Parts 1-6 unpaginated, illustrated throughout with photomontages, diagrams, overlays, foldouts, die cuts, a tipped in cloth sample and many other design elements. Part 7 is a folder that contains two large folding maps and a manual of descriptive text. Folio, 365 x 275 mm., 6 parts in original embossed wrappers, part 7 in original printed folder all contained in the publisher's drop-back box, with a photograph by Anatoly Skurikhin surrounded by a faux riveted border, that is repeated down the spine, in a new cloth folding box. Moscow: IZOGIZ, 1935. An unusually fine copy of a work generally considered to be one of the masterpieces designed by Lissitzky, and the most spectacular and rarest of the Soviet photobooks. The book was published to accompany the first All-Union art exhibition, a celebration of the achievements of Socialist industrialization, intended originally to open in 1937 to commemorate the second Soviet Five Year Plan and the 20th anniversary of the Russian Revolution but delayed by two years. The resulting book '.is a cornucopia of graphic design and photomontage, arguable the high point both of Lissitsky's book designing career and of the Soviet propaganda photobook.' (Parr & Badger). In exceptionally fine condition for a book rarely found thus. Karasik, The Soviet Photobook 1920-1940, p.214-223. Parr, The Photobook , vol. I, pp. 160-3. Roth, The Book of 101 Books, pp. 82-85. …
