Printed note attached to the back gives a brief bio of Pons and where/when the previous owner purchased the item. Also listed on the note is that the photo is stamped "The Metropolitan Musical Bureau Inc" with address. Can be sold without mass produced frame. Extra postage required if sold with frame.

unbound. Autographed letter signed in full, responding to a request by a musicologist for information regarding Recardo Vines, in part: ".Ricardo Vines was a dear friend. We went to Buenos Aires where I was at the Theatre Colon Opera. He was not only a great pianist but a wonderful human being. It was a long time since I was there! 1935." 1 page on personal letterhead stapled together with the envelope in which Pons' letter was sent and the typed letter which requested the information. 7" x 10.25". Texas, July 31, 1973. Very good condition.

Die Bildunterschrift lautet Buenos Aires | Palermo | El Lago"Die Postkarte geht an Mr. und Mrs. Schelling, die in New York ansässig waren. Die Karte enthält eine knappe Grußformel und die Unterschrift von Lily Pons.Lily Pons begann zunächst eine Ausbildung als Konzertpianistin, ehe sie ins Gesangsfach wechselte. Nach Engagements am Théâtre des Variétés in Paris und an französischen Provinzbühnen debütierte sie im Jahre 1927 als Lakmé in der gleichnamigen Oper von Léo Delibes am Stadttheater Mülhausen. 1930 kam sie nach Amerika, wo sie ein Jahr später an der Metropolitan Opera in New York debütierte. Lily Pons blieb der Met 30 Jahre lang bis 1961 verbunden und trat in hunderten Aufführungen auf. Außerdem spielte sie in den 1930er Jahren in Hollywoodfilmen. Außerdem trat Lily Pons, neben Marlene Dietrich, als einzige Sängerin in der französischen Front gegen die deutsche Besatzungsmacht im Zweiten Weltkrieg auf. Vgl. Wikipedia-Eintrag v. 14.08.2023.

French-born American operatic soprano who reigned at the Met for 25 years. IPS, 8" X 10", n.p., n.d. [dated on verso 1934 April 27 in another hand]. Inscribed to pianist John Leiser. Very good. Stunning half-length portrait.
