A baritone, he sang leading roles with the Metropolitan Opera in New York City more than 600 times between 1923 and 1950. He also performed a number of musical theatre roles, including Captain Hook in a touring production of Peter Pan.

An der Metropolitan Opera, zu deren Ensemble er bis 1950 gehörte, entwicke…lte er sich in der Folge als Amonasro (Aida), Ford, Don Carlo (La forza del destino), Jago (Otello), Rigoletto, Simon Boccanegra und Germont (La traviata) zum führenden Verdi-Bariton. Insgesamt sang Tibbett an der Metroplitan Opera 49 Rollen in über 600 Vorstellungen. Aus der Sammlung des Wiener Anwalts Max Bettelheim (1912-1971). Von dessen Nachfahren übernommen.

He performed diverse musical theatre roles, including Captain Hook in Peter Pan in a touring show.
