Effective programs require both effective instruction and a balanced curriculum. Either one without the other result in failure to educate students physically. Therefore, it is essential that prospective teachers be in structed in both aspects of the physical education program included in this book -curriculum and instruction. Unit one provides an introduction to the teaching w orld. Unit two presents the theory essential to an understanding of the learning process. This is followed in unit three by a presentation of the skills essenti al to the instructional process. This serves as a basis for both curriculum and instruction. Effective classroom management is presented in unit four. Unit five takes a prospective teacher through the process of curriculum design and the ev aluation of the instructional program. The book follows the progression usually followed in teaching undergraduate physical education majors.
