Black and white full page plates, vii+ 84pp., Original papered boards, slightly rubbed at the corners, paper is age-toned as usual, bibliography, appendix. Printed at the Tomoye Press in the year of the Rat, Meiji 45. 20 x 14cm. Prior owner bookplate on the front free endpaper, else a very good firm copy. Dora Amsden and John Happer highlight the vast influence of the Japanese artistic movement known as Ukiyo-e ("pictures of the floating world") on the whole Western art scene. The prints by Hiroshige, reflect the significance given to landscapes, but are also a testimony to the complete comprehension of a long gone society.
