Hardcover. Zustand: New. Zustand des Schutzumschlags: New. 1st Edition. The Book provides a comprehensive coverage in relation to History of Bible and of Churches. It includes sequential timelines, Biblical facts and overviews of History of both BC (Before Christ) and AD (Anno Domini). The Author encircles this phenomenal account of History in two different phases. The First phase is the summation of writings enshrining Bible History. This phase covers the historical account in Five Eras ranging from 4004 B.C. to 1 A.D. The First Era talks thoroughly on the process of the 'Creation of the World' to the 'Dispersion of Mankind'. The Second Era brings out the year's witnessing the 'Call of Abram' to the 'Birth of Moses'. Then, in the Third Era the whole picture, till the 'Death of Solomon' unfolds. The Fourth Era starts up with the 'Death of Solomon' and ends at the 'Babylonian Captivity'. The momentous period of BC is covered in the Fifth Era; from the 'Restoration of the Jews' to the 'Birth of Christ'. In furtherance of the Christ Birth, there is also a synopsis highlighting 'Life of Our Lord Jesus Christ'. The Second phase is an elaborate Compendium of Church History by Rev. John A. Dillon. This Phase covers a vast period, that is to say, Ancient Times, Middle Ages and Modern Times (A.D. 33 to the then present day, i.e., A.D. 1916). All the respective Times have been detailed by its demarcation in Epochs. Each Epoch covers a relevant time period, meticulously submitting History of that particular age. The period of Ancient Times starts with the 'Foundation of the Church' and ends with 'Coronation of Charlemagne'. Period of Middle Ages begins with the 'Restoration of the Western Empire' and elaborates till the 'Rise of Protestantism'. Lastly, the then period of Modern Times exhaustively spells out from the 'Rise of Protestantism', the 'French Revolution' and goes upto A.D. 1916. As Rev. J.L. (John Lancaster) Spalding, the then Bishop of Peoria, himself concluded in the Preface of the Book, revealing the truth about Author's sole aim "to supply Catholic schools with a complete text-book of sacred History". Further, the Author believes that Christianity as a religion cannot have any right theory and it can be understood only when it is clearly defined by means of authentic History. This piece of Work is an endeavor to rightly bring to light the deeds rather than the thoughts of Christian Religion. This is an exceptional and a complete Book in itself as it encapsules Bible and Church History; thereby covering 6000 years of heritage (4004 B.C. to A.D. 1916). It incorporates the Origin, History, and Development on the concerned subjects in layman language; also equipped with a quick reference guide in the form of Pronouncing Vocabulary for beginners and novice learners. It covers subjects like History, Christianity, Theology in general, and Biography of Lord Jesus Christ. The Book, is a must read for Christian Laity, Church Clergies, General Readers, Students and Researchers.

Hardcover. Zustand: Good. No Jacket. 1st Edition. MILK SEVEN DECADES OF MILK HISTORY OF NEW YORK S DAIRY INDUSTRY DILLON 1941 1ST. This book is an eye-opener. It starts with the premise, with which few would disagree, that the farmers ought to earn a reasonable living from all their hard work. It then goes on to tell the tale of the trials, the hardships and the injustices resulting from the distribution of milkselfishness and greed dominating our dairy industry; producers and consumers of milk have been continually and ruthlessly exploited. I am pleased to offer a copy of a rather scarce, sought-after and very forthright volume, titled: Seven Decades of Milk A History of New York s Dairy Industry, by John J. Dillon (at the time, Editor of the Rural New Yorker). This medium-sized hard cover book (6 x 9 inches, 340 pages) was published by the Orange Judd Publishing Co. of New York, dated 1941 and presumably a First Edition with the same date on title and copyright pages. The book is bound in light green library binding hard covers (indeed, it is ex-library) with black titles on the spine. There is a b&w photo portrait of the Author with a facsimile signature underneath it, as the Frontispiece. Condition: This book is in good condition. It is ex-library with all the usual markings including a shelf number on the spine, a card pocket, bar code label and any number of other markings. The hard covers are lightly soiled and the spine darkened. Corners and spine tips are bumped and rubbed. Inside, there are a few minor instances of underlining and/or marginal notes, perhaps just three times and the remaining pages are clean and bright throughout. The library binding hinges are intact and the binding itself tight and sound.

Cloth with dustjacket. Zustand: Gut. XV, 271 p. Aus der Bibliothek von Prof. Wolfgang Haase, langjährigem Herausgeber der ANRW und des International Journal of the Classical Tradition (IJCT) / From the library of Prof. Wolfgang Haase, long-time editor of ANRW and the International Journal of the Classical Tradition (IJCT). - Schutzumschlag berieben, minimale Randläsuren, Buchrücken ausgeblichen, Kopfschnitt angeschmutzt, Bleistiftanmerkung auf Vorsatz / dust jacket rubbed, minimal edgewear, spine faded, top edge soiled, pencil annotation on endpaper. - This collection of nine original essays is addressed to the growing number of philosophers, classicists, and intellectual historians who are interested in the development of Greek thought after Aristotle. The books particular concern is the réévaluation of philosophy in the period from about 50 B.C. to A.D. 200. The intellectual climate of this time has been dismissively designated eclectic, a term suggesting uncritical assemblage of divergent doctrines by thinkers who lacked originality and analytical acumen. These essays explore the meaning and history of eclecticism in the context of ancient philosophy and seek to provide more accurate descriptions of the work of such philosophers as Cicero, Philo of Alexandria, Plutarch, and the Neopythagoreans. They explore the distinctive character of intellectual enquiry at this timethe criterion of truth, the creative imagination, and the antecedents of our modern notion of the will. Collectively, these essays serve to dismiss the term eclecticism in its perjorative sense as a characterization of the philosophy of this period. What emerges as preoccupations of the period are the creative use of the intellectual tradition, the extension of philosophy into literary and scientific study, and the rational foundations of orthodoxy and heterodoxy. Thus the books findings will be useful to anyone interested in the cultural history of the period. / Contents Preface vii Notes on contributors ix Abbreviations xi Chronology xiii Introduction I i.
