Salido de las prensas de Ognisko, la imprenta polaca parisiense, este es el ensayo más importante de este poeta cracoviense de vanguardia que pasó buena parte de su vida en Francia, donde estuvo en contacto con los principales artistas abstractos y con algunos de los surrealistas. Director de L'Art Contemporain y colaborador de Cercle et Carré y de Linja, Brzekowski, que en 1968 publicaría unas muy interesantes memorias, fue miembro del grupo a.r. y el principal artífice de la colección internacional del Muzeum Sztuki de Lódz. Entre los ilustradores de sus poemarios destacan el propio Arp al cual en 1936 dedicó una monografía, editada por a.r.-, Max Ernst y Fernand Léger. El volumen contiene reproducciones en blanco y negro de obras de Hans Arp, Giacomo Balla, Georges Braque, Paul Cézanne, Giorgio de Chirico, Wanda Chodasiewicz-Grabowska (la futura Nadia Léger), Theo van Doesburg, Max Ernst, Jean Gorin, Fernand Léger, Jacques Lipchitz, Kasimir Malevich, Louis Marcoussis, Henri Matisse, Joan Miró, Amedeo Modigliani, Piet Mondrian, Claude Monet, Amédée Ozenfant, Pablo Picasso, Enrico Prampolini, Sophie Taeuber-Arp, Henryk Stazewski y Wladyslaw Strzeminski. En España el texto fue traducido por Manuel Viola, que lo publicó en dos entregas sucesivas de la revista leridana Art. Existe además una traducción de Kilométrage al esperanto, publicada en 1933 en Budapest, y de la que conocemos tres cubiertas distintas: una tipográfica, otra con la reproducción de un cuadro de Giorgio de Chirico, y otra especialmente diseñada por Arp.
