Trade Paperback. Zustand: GOOD. First Edition. From the personal library of Episcopal Priest, church historian, and ecumenist J. Robert Wright with his signature to the half-title. 99pp. Perfectbound in printed wraps; spine toned; Extensively underlined and critically annotated by Fr. Wright. Rutler's dissertation on the essenti…al symbolic value of the male priesthood came in response to the Anglican ordination of two women to the priesthood in 1971 and the ongoing disputation over their validity, which would escalate with the ordination of the 'Philadelphia Eleven' to the priesthood in 1974. Rutler left the Episcopal church soon thereafter and eventually joined the Roman Catholic church in 1979 and was ordained as a RC Priest in 1981.

Hardcover. Zustand: VERY GOOD. First Edition. 277pp. Printed glossy paper over boards backed in red paper spine with gilt stamped spine lettering, machine deckled fore edge, red place ribbon. Spine quite sunned, clean and sound otherwise. An extraordinary association: This copy SIGNED by Frank T. Griswold and inscribed to David…Booth Beers: 'For David Esq:- What can I say except 'thank you' / Love / Frank.' Then gifted by Beers to Episcopalian Priest and Church Historian, J. Robert Wright with an inscription d. October 2018. Frank Griswold was the 25th Presiding Bishop of the Episcopal Church. Griswold notably presided over the ordination of Gene Robinson as the first openly gay bishop in any major denomination. Robinson's appointment immediately precipitated the 'Anglican Realignment', a movement of conservative parishes removing themselves from the governance of the Episcopal Church and aligning themselves with alternative oversight withing the broader Anglican Communion under a province now known as the Anglican Church in North America or 'ACNA'. These departing bishops and congregations sought to retain their properties and buildings. David Booth Beers was lead counsel for the Episcopal Church, which 'took the position that church properties are held in trust for the diocese in which they are located, while departing bishops and congregations sought to retain the churches where they had worshiped for years. With important exceptions - notably the Dioceses of Fort Worth and South Carolina - the Episcopal Church has mostly prevailed, often after years of appeals. The disputed properties collectively are worth billions of dollars.' (Kirk Petersen, David Beers Booth Obituary in 'The Living Church.').
