A pictorial guide to the Edinburgh Botanical Garden, featuring numerous high-quality photographic illustrations, in addition to a fold-out map alongside several pages of original advertising copy. No Binding. Zustand: Very Good. Rare election broadside issued by Viscount Howick, later Prime Minister Earl Grey, during the Northumberland Parliamentary election of 1826. The address was printed following proceedings at Morpeth and records Howick's thanks to supporters after the show of hands at the hustings. He expresses confidence that he enjoys the support of "the general Voice of the County" and refers to attempts by supporters of Thomas Wentworth Beaumont to prevent him from being heard. An important piece of Northumberland political ephemera and a significant document from the parliamentary career of the future architect of the Reform Act of 1832. Single printed broadside, approximately 28.1 x 22.4 cm. No separate institutional record for this specific item has been traced. Very good condition. Fold creases. Minor edge wear and light handling marks. A scarce and desirable election broadside relating to the future Prime Minister Earl Grey.…

Three scarce items: no other copy traced. The three pamphlets are uniform in design, each consisting of 4pp, 12mo, stapled into card wraps with title and date beneath the Borough crest. Presumably produced for distribution at the annual town fair. The text of each poem covers all four pages. The first two are in good condition, lightly aged; the last is in fair condition, slightly ruckled and spotted. ONE: 'Ye Olde Dorset Fayre'. At the Royal Palm Court, Weymouth, 22 and 23 August 1923. Poem 'By Two Darset Maids' beginning: 'Come in, me vriends, and look around, / We got all zarts to zell:'. TWO: 'Wole Darset Vayre'. At Sidney Hall, Weymouth, 24 and 25 August 1927. Poem titled 'A Liddle bit more o' it', 'By the zame Two Darset Maids.' Beginning: 'Yer we be agen, me vriends, / At another wole Darset Vayre;'. THREE: 'Wole Darset Varye'. In original thin blindstamped blue cardboard case with gilt lettering [17 x 13 cm.].Rare Dutch overview map of the Amsterdam - Rijn Kanaal (also called Amsterdam - Merwede Kanaal) showing the planned course of the canal from Amsterdam to the Merwede at Gorinchem (Gorcum) as it was submitted as a bill in 1881. The map is in German and has two inset maps (scale 1: 15000) with detailed images of the works at Amsterdam and Gorcum, and a frame with a length and cross section(s) of the canal. The map was published together with the case on the occasion of the opening of the canal to shipping on 4 August 1892 by Queen Wilhelmina and Queen Regent Emma in Vreeswijk. - The Gebroeders J. en H. van Langenhuysen were Dutch printers who were active in the late 19th century. They are known for their woodcuts and lithographic prints.…

Contemporary calf, rebacked, period-style spines with raised bands, lettering pieces and gilt ornaments, fillets, volume numbers and publication dates, corners of Volumes 1, 3, 4 and 5 restored, blind tooling to board edges, endpapers renewed. Light rubbing and some shallow scuffing to boards, moderate rubbing to extremities with light wear to spine ends, heavier rubbing to corners, which are bumped, hinges just starting at ends. Moderate toning, negligible light crinkling to heads of text blocks, light spotting and foxing in places, moderate staining to fore-margins of Volume 2, lower outside corner of leaf 5H (pp. 393-394) in Volume 4 lacking with no loss to text, minor worming to margins of Volume 5 in a few places, early owner signature (John Lane) to its title page. It was popular among English and American practitioners into the early nineteenth century because its logical system of subdivisions within each title was a significant improvement over previous compendia. It was also considerably more comprehensive. As Marvin notes, it was "quite a law library in itself." Jefferson, who owned a copy of the fifth edition, saw it as the definitive statement of English law and the successor to the works of Bracton and Coke. The Abridgment was compiled and mostly edited by Bacon. The first volume was published in 1736 and new volumes were issued until the work was interrupted by Bacon's death. (His last entry was "Sheriff.") The rest of the work was edited by Sayer and Ruffhead. It went through some seven English and two American editions, the latter edited by Bird Wilson and John Bouvier.
