He received his doctorate from St. John's College, Oxford in 1962 on ancient South Arabic lexical materials related to irrigation techniques. Old South Arabic was the language group that would form the focus of his research for the rest of his life. Until 1998 he was a member of the School of Oriental and African Studies (SOAS) as a lecturer in Semitic languages. This copy comes from the library of Walter W.
