Irons' signature followed by Art Manager Cassell & Company Ltd., publishers Ludgate Hill E.C. handwritten on front free endpaper. Two handwritten signed letters and a business card (the card and one letter pastedown) on front pastedown endpaper from Frank Reynolds to William J. Irons, the card with Reynolds name and address of 44 Chatsworth Gdns Acton Hill W includes a note in Reynolds' hand: 'To introduce Mr Stanley Davis. v good and clever artwork W.I' and under his name Reynolds has written 'Art Editor of Punch'. The first letter addressed from 44 Chatsworth Gdns Acton. W undated and consisting of about 60 words is a request for Irons to see a friend of his named Frank Hart who wants to show Irons his work. 'Very good & clever artwork W.I.' written in Reynolds' hand at top of letter. The second tipped-in letter written on headed notepaper from Wind Mill Hill Cottage, Henley-on-Thames undated and consisting of about 58 words in which he thanks Irons for the MS and says 'I shall do my very best with the drawings you can bet.' He says he will be in London for two months and gives his address as 6 Onslow Studios, 187 King's Rd Chelsea. A handwritten signed letter pastedown on front free endpaper from Reynolds to Irons written on headed notepaper from his Chelsea address undated and consisting of about 37 words in which he refers to their encounters on the cricket pitch, 'Hope to see you soon if it is as an opponent, and chance the "bang in the ribs"!!! The covers Ð sorry!' Explanatory note in Irons' hand on front free endpaper in which he says 'This reference (underlined by Irons) in the letter is a playful reminder of our happy hours together as members of the Shepherd's Bush Cricket Club, & my efforts as one of the left-handed fast bowlers!!! William J. Irons.' He also states that Reynolds was for 'Many years Chief Art Editor of "Punch" (London) Ð and member of the Royal Institute of painters in water-colours, Piccadilly, London W.' A further handwritten signed letter and a Christmas card tipped-in on verso of title page. The letter written on headed notepaper addressed from 52, Courtfield Gardens, West Ealing. W. undated and consisting of about 40 words in which Reynolds apologises for the delayed return of the M.S.S. saying he is 'doing another Dickens book and it takes every moment I've got.' The printed Christmas postcard features a drawing by Reynolds and is addressed to William J. Irons Esq Cassell' & Co La Belle Sauvage Ludgate Hill E.C. Postmarked Dec 22 06. Irons has drawn an ink line down both sides of the introduction in the book. Newspaper cutting from the Daily Sketch Tuesday May 21, 1946 loosely inserted which features tributes to Mr. Millar Watt and the Pop cartoon he created, includes a contribution by Frank Reynolds. William J. Irons was the Cassell arts publication director. Frank Reynolds (1876 Ð 1953) joined "Punch" in 1919 and was Art Editor from 1920-32, having been a contributor since 1906. Boards slightly rubbed, otherwise very good. Slight rubbing, faint damp mottling at front edges otherwise very good. Signedes.…
