Taschenbuch. Zustand: Neu. Neuware - 'Isadora Duncan's Russian Days' offers an intimate and compelling look at the legendary pioneer of modern dance during her transformative years in Soviet Russia. Written by Irma Duncan, one of Isadora's most dedicated pupils and adopted daughters, this work chronicles the dancer's ambitious a…ttempt to establish a school for the children of the revolution. The narrative captures the spirit of Isadora's artistic vision as she navigates the complexities of a nation in flux. It details her passionate but turbulent relationship with the poet Sergei Yesenin and her tireless efforts to revolutionize dance as a form of liberation and expression. Through firsthand accounts and observations, the book provides a unique perspective on Duncan's indomitable spirit and her commitment to bringing art to the masses during a period of intense historical change. As a significant contribution to dance history and biography, 'Isadora Duncan's Russian Days' serves as a vital record of an artist who defied convention. It explores the intersection of art and politics, revealing the challenges and triumphs Isadora faced while seeking to realize her dream of a school that would nurture the creative potential of every child. This account remains an essential resource for those interested in the life of Isadora Duncan and the development of 20th-century performing arts. This work has been selected by scholars as being culturally important, and is part of the knowledge base of civilization as we know it. In den WarenkorbFirst Edition. First impression. Octavo (22cm); orange publisher's cloth, titled in gilt on spine; 384pp; 9 unnumbered leaves of photographic plates (halftones). A bright, clean copy, Near Fine, lacking the scarce dustwrapper. With the bookplate of American meat-packing magnate J. Ogden Armour (1863-1927) and the ownership signa…ture of his wife, Lola Sheldon (aka "Lolita") Armour. A very nice copy of a book usually found well-worn, the orange cloth being notoriously susceptible to soiling. Curiously, J. Ogden Armour had been dead two years before this memoir was published - it is odd but by no means unprecedented that his widow continued to insert his handsome bookplate into works acquired after his death. A memoir of Duncan's fertile but turbulent period in the Soviet Union, written by her disciple and adopted daughter. Duncan - who had been a vocal supporter of the Revolution, sometimes to the consternation of her American friends - lived in Moscow from 1920 to 1924, a period during which she founded a school of dance and physical culture and was briefly married to the avant-garde poet Sergei Yesenin.

In den WarenkorbFirst edition, first printing, scarce with the dust jacket. This biography was co-written by Duncan's daughter and the American writer Allan Macdougall, who was a part of the dancer's Paris circle, and would later write Isadora: a Revolutionary in Art and Love (1960). Octavo. With colour frontispiece of watercolour sketch of Dun…can by Emile-Antoine Bourdelle with captioned tissue guard, and 8 black and white plates. Original red cloth, spine lettered in yellow, sunflower design on front cover in yellow and green, fore edge untrimmed. With dust jacket. Spine and head of rear panel sunned, spine ends lightly bumped and rubbed, tips a touch rubbed, internally fresh and clean. A near-fine copy in lightly soiled jacket, spine panel toned, extremities a little chipped and rubbed with a few nicks, short closed tear to centre of spine panel, a sharp example.
