Erstausgabe
First Edition. First impression. Octavo (22cm); orange publisher's cloth, titled in gilt on spine; 384pp; 9 unnumbered leaves of photographic plates (halftones). A bright, clean copy, Near Fine, lacking the scarce dustwrapper. With the bookplate of American meat-packing magnate J. Ogden Armour (1863-1927) and the ownership signature of his wife, Lola Sheldon (aka "Lolita") Armour. A very nice copy of a book usually found well-worn, the orange cloth being notoriously susceptible to soiling. Curiously, J. Ogden Armour had been dead two years before this memoir was published ? it is odd but by no means unprecedented that his widow continued to insert his handsome bookplate into works acquired after his death. A memoir of Duncan's fertile but turbulent period in the Soviet Union, written by her disciple and adopted daughter. Duncan ? who had been a vocal supporter of the Revolution, sometimes to the consternation of her American friends ? lived in Moscow from 1920 to 1924, a period during which she founded a school of dance and physical culture and was briefly married to the avant-garde poet Sergei Yesenin.

Original red cloth, spine lettered in yellow, sunflower design on front cover in yellow and green, fore edge untrimmed. With dust jacket. Spine and head of rear panel sunned, spine ends lightly bumped and rubbed, tips a touch rubbed, internally fresh and clean. A near-fine copy in lightly soiled jacket, spine panel toned, extremities a little chipped and rubbed with a few nicks, short closed tear to centre of spine panel, a sharp example.
