Still, a SCARCE children's book. Lacks dustjacket.

"This book is more than a mere reprint of Birds in a Village published in 1893. The first portion of the old book has been mostly re-written with some fresh matter added; and for the concluding portion of it, entirely new matter has been substituted" (WILSON 35).

A straight, tight copy, somewhat foxed at prelims; Very Good, lacking the dustwrapper. A charming book on the identification of various seagoing vessels based on the silhouettes they present at sea, "and to offer a lookoutman's comments on their character and habits and tempers." The brief (ca. 60-word) letter, on "Anchor Line" stationery, concerns the hull colors of ships on the CPR (Canadian Pacific Railroad) Line. Signed.

Orange cloth with black and brown impressing. Corners bumped, tears in spine ends, spine cloth darkened, a little soiling to boards. Interior has some foxing, thumbing and small tears. Tissue guards over plates opposite pp. 50 and 106 are detached. Gwynedd Hudson (1881-1935) was known for her work as a figure painter, illustrator and poster artist. Her "Alice" features subdued colors and darker tones which are beautiful and slightly creepy at the same time.
