Illustrated with ninety-six plates, including sixteen mounted colour plates with captioned tissue guards and eighty monochrome plates. Collated, complete. A substantial illustrated monograph examining Thomas Rowlandson"s work as a draughtsman, watercolourist and caricaturist. Thomas Rowlandson (1757-1827) was a British draughtsman, watercolourist, printmaker and caricaturist, particularly celebrated for his lively and frequently satirical depictions of Georgian society and influential figures including Georgiana the Duchess of Devonshire, and Napoleon Bonaparte. The editor, Adolph Paul Oppe (1878-1957) was a British art historian, collector and museum official whose scholarship helped establish the serious study of British drawing. A generously produced survey, reflecting the remarkable breadth of Rowlandson"s artistic achievement. In the publisher's original paper vellum elephant folio. Externally, generally smart.
