Pages show signs of discoloration due to age with the previous owner's name elegantly written on the front fly sheet, slightly loose covers at the hinges but are firmly attached still, and minor notations and some dog earing of pages from the previous owner. I spent almost my whole life traveling, albeit not on the traditional tourist and vacation routes, although I did expect to eventually make that transition. It did not really happen but I still have a lot of books for guidance and where and what. This type of guidebook is typically very common in the booktrade but not so if you get off the beaten track or reach for the different route. This one is not too far north of London but alas I still did not get there. Your turn to try! Please find: " Highways and Byways of Hertfordshire" by Herbert W. Tompkins with illustrations by Frederick L. Griggs. The book is nicely illustrated with 100 drawings of local scenes by the artist and a fold-out county-level map at the rear. Condition: This book is in very good condition. The hard covers are generally bright and handsome, particularly the gilt titles on cover and spine. There are a few small abrasions on the front cover and faint bumping to the corners and spine tips. Inside, there is an inked gift inscription on the front endpaper which like the rear endpaper has a good deal of foxing (which does not really affect anything in the book). The interior pages and many plates are clean and bright without toning or foxing. Both hinges are intact but the binding is cracked at page 17; nevertheless, the binding still feels tight and sound.
