Soft cover. Zustand: Good - Very Good. No Jacket. First Edition. The June, July, August & September 1953 issues of Verdict, vol 1 #s1 - 4, a mystery digest from the mid 1950s. GGA covers. Contents include parts 1 - 4 of 5 of Fer-de-Lance, the first Nero Wolfe novel by Rex Stout. Note - Verdict ceased publication in the US with the September issue. Consequently part 5 of the serial was never published. There was a British edition of the magazine that continued publication. However, I have not seen part 5 in that edition either. Condition issues include: June - Light creases to the bottom right of the front cover; July - Light rubbing to the covers, light round, red stamp (appears to be Italian) at the top right of the back cover; August - roughness to the fore edge and some rubbing and light creases to the front cover, small loss a various spots along the spine; September - roughness to the fore edge of the front cover and some rubbing at the bottom of the spine, small loss at the bottom margin of the back cover (it looks like a varmint chewed on it) that diminishes and fades out by page 100. Note: Frank Kane is listed as an author on the front cover of the July issue but it doesn't have a story by him. A good to very good and hard to assemble set of the complete run of this title's issues with stories and installments by prominent and collectible authors.…

Zustand: Good. Privately printed for confidential and family use : three hardback volumes. 4to (32cm by 26cm), with text and numerous folding pedigrees. Uniformly bound in the original half white vellum, grey boards, gilt titling to the spines. The bindings are rubbed and dusty, and there is some light scattered foxing of the contents, but the bindings are tight and this is a good, solid set overall. Volume 1 (the main volume) is 10cm thick, and contains 40 folding pedigrees. It als has the inscription of W A James of 22 Norfolk Square (dated 2 Dec 1913). The other two volumes are supplements. The first is entitled "Extracts from the Pedigrees of James of Barrock", and 10 folding pedigrees, with amplifying text pages. This volume has the bookplate of W Ashton James, and has a few pages of manuscript additions at the back of the book. The second supplementary volume was published in 1914, and is entitled "Additions and Corrections to the Pedigrees of James of Culgarth, West Auckland and Barrock, and their kinsfolk". It contains 35 pages of text and two folding pedigrees. Bound in at the back of the second supplement is a further pedigree, of the Graham branch of the family, dated 1917. An important and extremely scarce family history monograph.…

A prize binding with the gilt arms of the school ( Schola Bostoniensis) on the cover attractively done. Marbled endpapers with neat prize label. Minimal wear; very good indeed with clean text. and very clean plates and excellent map (Manchuria with inset of the Sea of Ohkosk.). …
