Green cloth boards underneath the clean with only minor spotting, rear board has a bump at the bottom center edge. The internal binding is good, no hinge issues at boards though there is some pulling at spots, like page 126/127. Pages are toned due to age and there is a bit of spotting and foxing scattered about, though nothing serious. A number of pages starting at 175 show small creases in the lower outside corners, where the pages were bumped. No signatures or bookplates, no library markings, no handwriting, no remainder marks. In the publisher's original black cloth binding, encased in the original, clipped dust wrapper. Illustrated with a vignette title page and several further colour decorations by Herman Rosse, who also designed the set for the 1932 performance. The unsuccessful Broadway play, co-written by Academy-Award winner Ben Hecht and American writer Gene Fowler. Following its debut at the New York Selwyn Theatre, the performance ran for a further ten shows before closing prematurely. Dec, 1932", with Hubbard's bookplate to the front pastedown. The play debuted at the Selwyn Theatre on Broadway on 2 December 1932, closing after just 11 performances. Although the copyright page dates the publication to 1933 this edition was in fact printed on 15 December 1932. It includes "vivid plates from the play's scenic designer Herman Rosee depicting the various sets Rosse had created for the production" (Dietz, p. 241).
