Loosely inserted typed signed letter to Roderick Ham from Dr Fiala Istvn, chairman of the jury written on headed notepaper from M_vel_dsi s Kzoktatsi Minisztrium and consisting of about 30 words in Hungarian saying the National Theatre Competition publication is enclosed. The competition for an architectural design for the new National Theatre in Budapest received 73 entries. It was won by Ferenc Bn. Roderick Ham was a jury member who contributed a report of the competition in which he discusses some aspects of what makes a successful theatre design. Roderick Ham (1925 Ð 2017) was a much admired theatre architect who played an important role in the development of British theatre design in the postwar years. He designed the innovative Leatherhead Thorndike Theatre, the Derby Playhouse and the Wolsey Theatre in Ipswich. Very good. ISBN 9638511761 Very good.

A working notebook (written from both the front and upside down from the back) dated December 1983, with stamp of Roderick Ham and Partners Architects, 2 St Mary Abbots Place, London W8 on verso of front free endpaper, containing notes, a chart and useful addresses relating to various projects chiefly the Harrow Arts Centre (he produced an important unrealised design for this project) but also mentions the Corn Exchange Wallingford, Penrith Sports Hall and a new swimming pool at Aylesbury (none were realised). Roderick Ham (1925-2017) was a much admired theatre architect who played an important role in the development of British theatre design in the postwar years. He designed the innovative Leatherhead Thorndike Theatre, the Derby Playhouse and the Wolsey Theatre in Ipswich. A couple of small marks on boards, otherwise very good. There is also a prose piece which decribes his frustrating journey to Hong Kong.
