Tan importante como su obra pictórica son sus escritos y su trabajo como teórico, otra vertiente de su producción artística que nos permite acercarnos de manera distinta a la experiencia y la mentalidad del creador. Peter Halley ha sido director de estudios de pintura de la universidad de Yale, ha impartido clases en la Universidad de Columbia, en UCLA y en la Escuela de Artes Visuales de Nueva York.
