The Colloquium was sponsored and organized by the College Industry Councilfor Material Handling Education (CIC-MHE) with addi tional co-sponsorship and funding provided by numerous organizations (see ac knowledgements). The purpose of the Colloquium was to foster open discussion about the current state of material handling research at universitiesfrom across the United States and Canada. She traveled to South Africa seeking a "summer clime for health and rest" after having appeared in concerts and operas across Europe with her two sisters. Vescelius-Sheldon lived for three years in South Africa and this book recounts her life there with her two sisters. The book was republished as Y?ankee Girls in 'Oom Paul's Land? in 1899. J. W. Whelpley was president of the board of trustees of the public schools in Washington, DC. Uncommon to find an autographed copy! With Whelpley?s signature on the rear pastedown.
