Il a publié articles et critiques dans l'Art Bulletin, la Gazette des Beaux-Arts, le Burlington Magazine, Art news, Archirio de Aile Espanol, Arts et dans d'autres revues. Il est l'auteur du catalogue de l'exposition Gérôme organisée à Dayton dans l'Ohio en 1972 et, chez ACR Edition, d'une importante monographie avec catalogue raisonné sur Gérôme en 1986 et, en 1991, d'un ouvrage sur les Orientalistes de 1'Ecole Britannique.
