With Several Originals, By Eminent Writers'. Each volume with an engraved title vignette depicting musicians and with opening vignettes depicting in vols. I: Abelard as hooded monk at sea; II: A shepherd and his flock; III: Mary Queen of Scots; and IV: a valetudinarian; all by Isaac Taylor. In contemporary speckled calf, board edges and spines gilt and with burgundy and black letter-pieces (loss to title-piece on vol. IV). Chipping to heads and tails of spines and mild bumping to some corners, but overall a handsome set.…

Each volume is wrapped in protective brown paper with printed labels taped to the spines. Endpapers marbled. With illustration to the first page of text in each volume. Rubbing and chipping to the leather at the spines and boards and splitting to the hinges of each volume. Some off-setting to the text throughout, darkening to the edges of the front and endmatter of each volume & pencil markings to the first free endpaper of volume 1.
