Splitting to lower half of the hinge between the front pastedown and free endpaper, not currently affecting the book's integrity. Three tears along folds in the map, restricted in the main to the margin. Text-block sound and pages remain bright.…

Emin Pasha (born Eduard Schnitzer (1840-1892), of German-Jewish origin), was a physician, naturalist and colonial administrator. In 1878 he succeeded General Charles Gordon as Governor of Equatoria, southern Sudan. The Mahdist revolt would cut Equatoria off from the rest of the world from 1883 until 1888 when the relief expedition led by Henry Morton Stanley eventually reconnected with Emin.…
