Este libro, el primer volumen de dos, fruto de un vasto proyecto de investigación, nace con el objetivo de desvelar lo oculto, por ello toma el nombre de Aletheia (auténtica verdad, en griego). Quiere abrir, con delicadeza y ternura, la cicatriz que cerró en falso un dolor que vive intenso en nosotros, a veces, desde nuestra primera infancia. La creación, como acompañante más allá del lenguaje discursivo, pone imágenes, metáfora, sonido a una herida impronunciable. Desde hace más de sesenta años, los procesos creadores aplicados en terapia (a través de las artes visuales, la danza, el teatro y la música), al trabajar alternativamente con los dos hemisferios cerebrales ?al fluctuar entre la expresión simbólica y la interiorización de los resultados a través del lenguaje y la escritura?, permiten el trabajo de la reconstrucción narrativa, corporal y emocional del trauma y ofrecen la capacidad de dar sentido al dolor. Por ello se han revelado como instrumentos eficaces para la mejora de personas y colectivos que necesitan de vías más allá del discurso analítico, para expresar, por decirlo de algún modo, lo inexpresable. En las últimas décadas, la neurociencia ha confirmado lo que los artistas venían mostrando desde hace siglos: que no todo discurso es analítico y ordenado; que la memoria no es siempre organizada, ni el tiempo lineal y medible; que no todo el espacio puede ser mesurable, ni nuestras acciones coherentes. Que hay un tiempo de incubación donde el cuerpo ?ninguneado durante siglos de mentalidad cartesiana y religiosa? es también cerebro empático y convierte en huella física nuestras alegrías y dolores, allá donde la razón no llega. Within this scenario of increasing data availability, Systems Biology has also been emerging as an alternative to the reductionist view that dominated biological research in the last decades. Indeed, Biology is more and more a science of information requiring tools from the computational sciences. In the last few years, we have seen the surge of a new generation of interdisciplinary scientists that have a strong background in the biological and computational sciences. In this context, the interaction of researchers from different scientific fields is, more than ever, of foremost importance boosting the research efforts in the field and contributing to the education of a new generation of Bioinformatics scientists. PACBB'13 hopes to contribute to this effort promoting this fruitful interaction. PACBB'13 technical program included 19 papers from a submission pool of 32 papers spanning many different sub-fields in Bioinformatics and Computational Biology. Therefore, the conference will certainly have promoted the interaction of scientists from diverse research groups and with a distinct background (computer scientists, mathematicians, biologists). The scientific content will certainly be challenging andwill promote the improvement of the work that is being developed by each of the participants.
