Er studierte an der Universität Ingolstadt, war danach zunächst als Rechtsanwalt tätig, bis er wieder an die Universität Ingolstadt zurückkehrte und dort ab 1799 als a.o. Prof. wirkte. Im Jahre 1800 siedelte er mit der Universität nach Landshut über, wurde 1803 zum o. Prof. berufen und lehrte dort bis 1826, als die Universität erneut, diesmal nach München, verlegt wurde.
