Aargauer Ausgabe (auch: De Institutione Grammatica libri tres) beginnt direkt mit der Überschrift zum Liber Primus: 'De generibus nominum, quae ex significatione cognoscuntur' - Die 'Grammaticarum institutionum' erschien als relativ frühes jesuitisches Lehrmittel erstmals Lissabon 1572 (Ordensgründung durch Ignatius von Loyola 1534). DB&S (1, sp. 223): "Les trois livres sont: I. De Etymologia; II. De Syntaxi; III. De Prosodia. Cette première édition n'a pas l'Index qui se trouve dans quelques éditions postérieures. Cette grammaire devint l'ouvrage classique dans la plupart des provinces de la Compagnie [des Jésuites] et fut recommendée par le 'Ratio studiorum'. Alvares, lat.: Alvarus; Ribeira, Brava / Madeira 1526-1582 Evora), unterrichtete Sprache u. Literatur und war u.a. Rektor von Coimbra u. Evora (DB&S). "On a de lui une excellente 'grammaire' [.], et c'est certainement la meilleure qu'on puisse employer à l'usage des colleges; toutes celles qu'on a récemment essayé de lui substituer, ne sont que des recueils informes, faits par des gens qui eux-mêmes ont grand besoin d'apprendre la grammaire d'Alvarez. Les vers techniques qui facilitent la mémoire des préceptes, sont aussi naturels que la matière comporte; et l'on doit en savoir d'autant plus gré à l'auteur, que la grammaire est presque la seule science où cette sorte de vers puisse être de quelque secours."
