Buch. Zustand: Neu. Neuware - This collection of the most-requested articles from the quarterly journal, The Diversity Factor, many of them written by the managers who lived the experience, reflect the complexity of the diversity challenges in today's corporations and offer eloquent suggestions for beginning to deal with this daunting issue. The focus of this volume is on true cultural change, not merely communications and training. The essay writers provide strategies and methods for launching and living with culture change. Their eyes are on the future, not the past. The Diversity Factor takes a hard look at the realities of today and offers strategies that will help you lead your organization into tomorrow's new world.
Zustand: Sehr gut. Zustand: Sehr gut | Seiten: 264 | Sprache: Englisch | Produktart: Bücher | White women and people of color now constitute the majority of the U.S. workforce, yet ninety-seven percent of senior managers of Fortune 500 and Fortune 1,000 industrial companies remain white men. It's clear that leaders of American organizations are requited to play key roles in a world that has become strange to them, says Cross. To succeed in an increasingly competitive global environment, our organizational leaders must have the courage to act outside their comfort zones-to try to understand, interact with, motivate, develop, and retain a work force that is alien to them.Cross' book provides the practical assistance they need. Because racism, sexism, and other forms of oppression are not rational, help cannot be found wholly in rationalism. Such biases arise from emotional and psychological bases. Our leaders are thus forced to confront their barriers within barriers that exist at every level of their organization. Cross uses her own experiences as an African American woman and as an experienced, and recognized management consultant to demonstrate how oppression functions at the individual, group, and systems levels, but her book is not a memoir. Rather, it is a sophisticated explication of a complex and complete system of organizational change, with case studies and other useful aids, which, if fully grasped, will enable courageous leaders to succeed in understanding and dealing effectively with the urgent crosscultural and gender issues in the workplace.

Buch. Zustand: Neu. Neuware - All the talk, all the new laws, all the seminars on learning to live with each other's differences - and still the workplace remains a hostile environment for too many people. Many organizations are still in the grip of racism, sexism, and other forms of oppression, even after the Civil Rights Act, the Women's Movement, countless workshops, support groups, and organizational initiatives. Is it possible to truly eliminate discrimination Why do some companies persist in their efforts to challenge the status quo The answer: the promise that diversity can create powerful options for a highly productive, synergistic workplace. Forward-thinking executives and managers know that their workforces will only grow more diverse. The sooner the organization fosters an environment where individuals and teams learn to work well together, the faster it achieves a competitive edge in an increasingly challenging marketplace. The Promise of Diversity is a contemporary, future-focused business anthology that represents the views of over 40 leaders, researchers, and practitioners who are actively working to address issues of oppression and diversity in organizations. Their enlightening essays cover such topics as throwing away the 'melting pot' idea and regarding diversity as a strength, optimizing the value of individual difference through an organizational systems approach, developing cross-gender partnerships, the white male's current position at the intersection of race and gender, sexual orientation as a workforce diversity issue, and the problems faced by white women and women of color. Here are the hopes, fears, and dreams of leading change agents regarding the promise (and perils) of truediversity in the workplace. Representing each author's voice, style, and point of view, this collection of insightful articles is itself a living example of diversity and is destined to become a classic reference in its field.

No Jacket. 232, xxv pp. ; illustrated, 19 photographic plates, 3 in color ; 21 cm. ; John Horace McFarland (1859-1948) was an American master printer and horticulturist. Throughout his career, he advocated for civic beautification, and he became a leader in the conservation movement of the early twentieth century. These early experiences instilled the passion for horticultural beauty and the business expertise that distinguished him personally and professionally. He eventually purchased his father's press. Combining the skills learned from these early experiences, he established a successful printing company of his own. He founded the J. Horace McFarland Company/Mount Pleasant Press, specializing in seed catalogs and nursery trade publications.
