Foster was a noted theologian of his time whose primary dissent with church doctrine involved 'Duration of Future Punishment', a subject treated at length in some of the letters included in the workWith the contemporary owner's inscriptions, 'Alexander C. Ewing with love from his affectionate cousin M, 4th May 1870' to the verso of an endpaper of volume I, and simply 'A C Ewing' on the same page in volume II. In the original morocco binding.
