Tal vez, alguno de los personajes de mi novela despierte vuestra curiosidad también. Lo cierto es que cojo datos de muchas personas que han sufrido los horrores de la guerra y el picor de sus llamas, y que han probado su amargo sabor. Algunos personajes son reales, personas que me contaron sus historias; otras son personas cercanas a quienes conozco en la realidad, como Leila y su marido, el cirujano Ferhad (los nombres son, evidentemente, ficticios), en esta novela. Los conozco bien y me dolió mucho el destino de su pequeña familia, pues Leila sigue siendo incapaz de articular palabra a día de hoy y vive refugiada con tres hijos en Estambul. Otros personajes son producto de mi imaginación, a fin de completar la escena y contar la amarga realidad.
