Dodge, born in Brooklyn, Connecticut, was a staunch peace activist who founded the first Peace Society in the United States - the New York Peace Society. He was also a founder of the New York Bible Society and the New York Tract Society. The book is divided into three main sections: War is Inhuman; War is Unwise; and War is Criminal, each with the reasons for each statement. In addition, there are sections entitled: Objections Answered; Hymn; and The Mediator's Kingdom not of this World, but Spiritual. Gray cloth printed in dark blue, frontis portrait of the author, 168 pages. Some light soil to the covers and a little bit of edgewear, mainly to the top edge, good hinges, firm binding, very clean pages free from names or other markings. Hard Cover. A Short Tract, Addressed to the Children of the Kingdom in New York [drop title]. At the bottom of the text on p. 7, it is dated at New York, October 1809. Page 8 contains six verses of poetry by Cowper. This appears to be unrecorded.
