Dasberg -- Trauma in the Life of the Individual and the Collective -- Conciousness in relation to War and Persecution - S. Davidson -- A Comment on the speakers from Israel - G.L. Durlacher -- Trauma of War and Adaptation in Post-war Society - B.C. Filet - Discussion. // This book reports a symposium about "Society and War trauma". The issue extends beyond the well-known images of war traumatization and its treatment. Amongst the questions which are dealt with we mention: what does a society do with the victims, after it has recovered from a man-made disaster? Is there a legitimate place for the victim? What kind of help is society prepared to give, and how fast? May survivors ask for the attention they have earned? Or are they scarcely allowed to present themselves as victims? Two experts from Israel and one from The Netherlands handle the question of collective and social processing. Society in Israel had to deal with victims of World War II as well as victims from recent wars: Israel might be seen as one large sociotherapeutic experiment. Holland with its shocked national self-confidence had to deal with great numbers of victims from Japanese camps. Although denial and lack of understanding are present in both countries, there certainly are great differences between the reactions of the two nations. Experts in the field, mainly from Holland, give a critical comment in a special chapter as well as in a panel-discussion. ISBN 902322275X Sprache: Englisch Gewicht in Gramm: 550.
