"Life" magazine's renowned editor Henry R. Luce introduces these ten essays, first published in its pages and here the first book edition. The other five contributor…s are John W. Gardner, Clinton Rossiter, Albert Wohlstetter, James Reston and Walter Lippmann. Contributor's copy, the personal copy of Governor Stevenson (1900-65) sent him by the publisher and hails from the library of Adlai E. Stevenson III (1930-2021), U.S. Senator from Illinois (1969-81). Stevenson's essay "Extend Our Vision. to All Mankind" appears on pages 21-35. He folds down the first corner and apparently even reviewed his own essay, for several pencils rules (his typical marking) appear in its margins. Uncommon and a unique family copy.

David Sarnoff was a businessman and pioneer of America…n radio and television. Throughout most of his career he led the Radio Corporation of America (RCA) in various capacities from shortly after its founding in 1919 until his retirement in 1970. He ruled over an ever-growing telecommunications and media empire that included both RCA and NBC, and became one of the largest companies in the world. Named a Reserve Brigadier General of the Signal Corps in 1945, Sarnoff thereafter was widely known as "The General." Sarnoff is credited with Sarnoff's law, which states that the value of a broadcast network is proportional to the number of viewers.
