Ein gutes und sauberes Exemplar. - Text niederländ. u. franz. - Knospen. -Der Titel gibt die Arbeitweise vor, aus Stadtplänen, Segelmasten, Hochspannungsleitungen entstehen Formen für Mental Maps des Künslers, Stammbäume und Formen die mit der Spannung zwischen Signifikat und Signifikant spielen. - De par son style, René Daniels n'est pas un virtuose de la peinture. Ses figures sont de composition schématique et leur développement est quelquefois rudimentaire. Elles paraissent sans relief en raison d'une ambiguïté dans la perspective et de l'étalement des couleurs à plat, sans épaisseur. Dans un de ses tableaux, le style de composition est dépouillé au point que Daniels semble y avoir accordé toute son attention exclusivement aux couleurs. Au reste, la peinture n'est pas pour Daniels un objectif en soi, mais bien plutôt le moyen de représenter ses idées. Son domaine de travail s'étend bien au-delà de l'art pictural; il recouvre 'la zone autrefois neutre, à la frontière entre la littérature, les arts plastiques et la vie'. Ses tableaux l'attestent de par leurs nombreux renvois aux diverses disciplines artistiques et à la vie, ainsi que par la confusion du mot avec l'image. Il est fréquent que des mots ou des textes y soient peints; et le titre, quant à lui, n'est jamais sans importance. L'image et le titre sont, pour Daniels, l'occasion de jouer sur la relation entre la forme (le mot) et la signification. L'artiste déconstruit les formes et les combine; il les transforme et les transpose, les faisant miroiter et les multipliant en sorte de les dissocier de leur signification courante et de susciter en grand nombre des interprétations nouvelles. Cette manipulation perpétuelle de formes et quelquefois de figures entières a donné naissance à une oeuvre dont les différentes pièces sont très intimement liées entre elles, tant par la forme que par le contenu.
