Two editions were published: the first on 2 July 1914 (dated 20 June 1914, but publication was delayed) and featured a bright pink cover, referred to by Ezra Pound as the "great MAGENTA cover'd opusculus"; and the second a year later on 15 July 1915. Both editions were written primarily by Wyndham Lewis. In den WarenkorbSee his entry in the Oxford DNB. 3pp, 12mo. On a bifolium. In good condition, lightly aged, with strip of mount adhering to blank reverse of second leaf. Signed 'Sidney Colvin'. The recipient is not named, but is addressed as 'Dear Madam'. The letter begins: 'I am afraid I made a mistake yesterday, in addressing you as E. M. Sharpe Esqr. - but it was the address of the Natural History Museum which misled me.' In order to make sure this time, he is addressing the present letter 'to the care of Mr. Bowdler Sharpe: to whom also the drawing has this day been returned.' It is from 'a well-known design occurring in Raphael's fresco of the Incendio del Borgo at Rome. A chalk sketch for the figure, usually given to [?]. himself, but more proably by his pupil Giulio Romano, is in the Uffizi at Florence. This drawing is not G. Giulio, but by a later and much weaker copyist, and is of small value or none.' He ends by asking her to 'forgive the dalay and confusion in the matter'. …

He appends four numbered 'Biographical Facts', including 'I went to a Protestant School and was baptized at St. John's Church Waterloo Bridge Road (not far from the Old Vic)' and 'My mother was born in Hereford. (I have never heard of a Hereford Jewess).' The letter now takes an antisemitc turn, with Finck suggesting that it was 'my nose that has deceived you all this time! But Jimmy Glover has a nose three times the size of mine. Must he be a Jew? And after all Arthur Collins is only half a mo!' He does not ask for a disclaimer, but to be flung 'back among the Christians', adding 'Seriously, I wish I were a Jew. I would, by now, be a rich man.' He ends by suggesting that Newton get 'Bernard Marks to translate this back into my supposed tongue'. In a postscript he tells a story 'apropos St John's Church', his father and violin lessons.…
