First Edition. Very good copy rebacked with a new spine cover. The original cloth panels over bevelled boards have been retained. The front panel features two gilt-stamped vignettes with black and gilt-tooled decorative borders and title, "The Happy Hour." Decorative blind tooling on rear panel. The panel edges are slightly dulled and rubbed. Bumped corners. Previous owner's inscription on a blank prelim. leaf. Slight yellowing and dust-toning around the page margins, but very clean and bright otherwise. Pages 1 & 2 have two slight edge tears, without any loss. Remains particularly well-preserved overall; tight and strong. In den WarenkorbLandscape card, 7.5 x 11.5 cm. Designed to show off the firm's capabilities, and printed on one side in purple, green, light brown and gold, with fancy lettering within florally-decorated body and border, around a small central illustration of three men working a press. Printers' details in small letters at foot, reading 'F. Bentley & Co. Lth' and 'Shoe Lane, London.' The almanac on the reverse is a more restrained affair, stylishly printed in purple and gold. Fair: lightly-aged, with small closed hole to one corner, and slight wear at foot of almanac. Central image clear and undamaged. Harrild was uncle of the novelist Richard Jefferies. Frederick was the brother of Richard Bentley, publisher, and Samuel Bentley, printer. See Image.

An appealing map showing Iran/Persia, Afghanistan and Beluchistan finely shaded and the borders with Turkey, India, Turkestan and the Russian Empire. Also noting that "Names referring to Ancient Geography are in Light Characters", and recording submarine telegraph cables.
