Throughout his career, he advocated for civic beautification, and he became a leader in the conservation movement of the early twentieth century. His wide-ranging achievements made a lasting impact on printing processes, horticulture, and environmental protection. During McFarland's early years, his father operated a nursery and a small weekly newspaper in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania. McFarland worked in both of his father's businesses as a youth. These early experiences instilled the passion for horticultural beauty and the business expertise that distinguished him personally and professionally. He eventually purchased his father's press. Combining the skills learned from these early experiences, he established a successful printing company of his own. He founded the J. Horace McFarland Company/Mount Pleasant Press, specializing in seed catalogs and nursery trade publications. Over the course of his lifetime, McFarland wrote and lectured extensively on horticulture, printing methods, and civic improvement. McFarland was a prominent member of the American Rose Society. This work is a catalogue of etchings by the French artist Charles Meryon. Meryon was a French artist who is known for being a pioneer and one of the most significant etcher on the nineteenth century. He worked in etching as he was colour blind. His masterpiece is generally considered to be 'Abside de Notre Dame'. Illustrated profusely throughout. Written by Loys Delteil. Delteil was a French engraver as well as being an art historian. Translated, edited and with additions by Harold J. L. Wright. With a booklet of addenda and errata loosely inserted. With a newspaper clipping from the Daily Telegraph on the 23rd December 1921 loosely inserted, being an article about Charles Meryon. In a quarter cloth binding with paper to the boards. Externally, smart. A little bumping to the head and tail of the spine. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are bright and clean. Fine. book.

Draft script for the 1965 BBC television movie "Tea Party," adapted by Pinter from his 1963 short story. The film first aired live on March 25, 1965 on the BBC program "The Largest Theatre in the World." INSCRIBED by screenwriter Pinter on that day: "March 25th 1965 / To Peter Colin Holder / Congratulations on being born! / Hooray! / Lots of Love / Harold Pinter." The story of an industrial tycoon who comes to believe that his new secretary, second wife, and brother-in-law are all conspiring against him, to the point where his health is affected by the conviction. Blue titled wrappers, lacking the rear wrapper. Front wrapper present but detached, with a credit for screenwriter Pinter.
