0. (Bruges), 25th February 1782, manuscript on paper, written in ink, in-folio, 8 pp ( last 3 pp blank) , written in French, very neat handwriting. ( One small hole in the centre of the letter). Guillaume Wets, general manager of the ''Maison de Commerce de Bruges '' disputes certain import duties he has to pay. Provenance; from… the archives of Charles de Proli ; added is a photostat of a typed letter from 23 May 1945 which refers to Theophile Smekens who was still occupied with Proli's bancruptcy in the late 19th c. ( see Denucé, Antwerps Archievenblad 2e reeks, 7 , 1932 nr.1). On this history of Proli's business initiatives see at length '' Charles Proli , Antwerps zakenman en bankier 1723 - 1786.'' Study by H. Houtman-De Smedt - published by the Brussels' Academy in 1983. On page 91-93 is related how Ostend became a tax-free port from which the Maison de Commerce de Bruges greatly benefitted. We have other archive records relating to Charles Proli and the ''Société Impériale de Trieste pour le commerce Aziatique'' on offer. If you would be interested in acquiring several documents a more advantageous price will be applied. Please inquire via e-mail.

Provenance; from the archives of Charles de Proli ; added is a photostat of a typed letter from 23 May 1945 which refers to Theophile Smekens who was still occupied with Proli's bancruptcy in the late 19th c. Liège, no publisher, 1785, in-8°, 76 pp + (1)nn pp (errata). Sewn in the original blind blue wrapper. Uncut copy. Nicely printed booklet, all pages within a typographical border. This copy with dustsoiled outer margins and some old waterstains at the end. With (an anymous) manuscript ex-dono from the author (?) to ''Au Bourgueme…stre D'Anvers Van Den Cruijce ''. (written on the first paste down). Extremely rare contemporary account on the bankrupcy of the socalled Austrian East India Company created by Charles Proli from Antwerp in the Southern-or Austrian Netherlands. This account is written by a well informed insider and was allmost certainly printed in Antwerp (Liège being fictituous). The publication is very rare. We could only trace one physical copy (Plantin-Moretus Museum in Antwerp). . H.Houtman-De Smedt mentions the publication on pp. 281 among the printed sources of her elaborate study on Charles Proli: ''Charles Proli, Antwerps zakenman en bankier 1723 - 1786''. Brussel, Academie, 1983.

2. S.l. (Antwerpen ?), manuscript on paper, written in ink, undated, (ca. 1778-1779), in-folio, 4 pp ( last 3 pp blank) , written in French, very neat handwriting. (first page a bit dustsoiled). Detailed business plan with organisational instructions consisting of 5 points concerning the purchase of a French ship ( the Turgot )…and sending it to Mahé and further to China. On the return voyage it would call at Trieste but this would be a simulated call. The final destination would be Bruges where the market for tea and Nankin silk is excellent. Proli was obliged to act with these disguised destinations because of great international opposition to his India trade .Provenance; from the archives of Charles de Proli ; photostat of a typed letter from 23 May 1945 refers to Theophile Smekens who was still occupied with Proli's bancruptcy in the late 19th c.
