Taschenbuch. Zustand: Neu. Neuware - There is no doubt that our world is becoming increasingly more connected through digital technologies. For meaningful participation in this environment we need to be digitally literate, yet there are many children in developing countries who have yet to touch a computer because of social disadvantage. For these children, schools are the only place where they can build this capacity. Regrettably, many schools in these communities are under resourced. They do not have sufficient and relevant library books, let alone digital resources. As a consequence, teaching and learning strategies have remained unchanged for decades. The field of critical pedagogy evolved through the initial work of Paulo Freire. This theory is underpinned by critical thinking about societal issues followed by action and reflection. When citizens are armed with such knowledge and skills, they can positively impact on the lives of the underprivileged. Critical pedagogy, however, is still struggling to find its meaningful place, particularly in higher education. This is largely due to the lack of effective strategies and critical educators. Share Engage Educate is an auto-ethnography which presents accounts of the initiatives that were undertaken to promote print and digital literacy in rural and remote schools in eight developing countries. It highlights the experiences of school leaders, teachers, university staff and students, and globally minded citizens working alongside local communities to enhance the quality of education for over 15,000 children in these schools. This book explores how critical pedagogy can unfold in educational spaces through knowledge sharing, engaging and in the process educating all stakeholders.…

Kombiprodukt. Zustand: Neu. Neuware - STEM Education in the Primary School introduces pre-service teachers to the theory, skills and practice of teaching STEM through a project-based learning approach. Science, technology, engineering and mathematics are presented as professions, mindsets and practices, and each element of STEM is integrated with the Australian Curriculum through a school garden project case study. Popular STEM topic areas, such as health, shelter and space, are explored using tested and age-appropriate project examples that illustrate the translation of STEM ideas to classroom practice. This textbook connects current research in STEM education to teaching practice through detailed discussion of topics including assessment, learning spaces, community and STEM futures. Encouraging readers to consolidate their knowledge, the text is supported by short-answer and reflection questions, information boxes and real-world scenarios. Suggested activities and downloadable templates in the VitalSource enhanced Elektronisches Buch provide guidance for readers when implementing projects and practices in their classroom.…

Buch. Zustand: Neu. Druck auf Anfrage Neuware - Printed after ordering - This book showcases evidence-based accounts of how school systems can tackle the challenges associated with teacher training in integrated STEM (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics) education. It reports on how a group of high school teachers from Papua New Guinea were upskilled in integrated STEM education through the Graduate Certificate in STEM Education course delivered by the Queensland University of Technology (QUT) (Australia). Through their own voices, the teachers present examples of how they applied their new knowledge and skills in their contexts by tackling real-world challenges and needs aligned with the PNG Curriculum and the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals. Their narratives are framed in terms of the STEM pedagogies they adopted. The book provides evidence of how knowledge gained through postgraduate training has been implemented by teachers in their respective contexts, including some in rural and remote schools. Through the eyes of both teacher educators and teachers, this book demonstrates how integrated STEM Education can be delivered and serves as a helpful resource for academics, teachers, and policymakers. Through these connections, academia and educational jurisdictions can sharpen their strategies for providing teacher in-service courses on integrated STEM Education.…
