Andrei Plesu Am incercat, pe de o parte, sa inteleg epoca in care ne-am nascut si am trait, si sa-i fac si pe colegii si contemporanii mei sa reflecteze la viata lor in Romania anilor 19501960, pe de alta. Am trait cu totii impreuna primele doua decenii ale regimului comunist si am pastrat, cum era si normal, amintiri deosebite. Pentru unii au fost vremuri bune, pentru altii mediocre sau proaste, pentru cativa, un adevarat cosmar. Formam o grupa de varsta nascuta imediat dupa al Doilea Razboi Mondial, intr-o perioada cand o lume intreaga disparea pentru a lasa locul alteia. Un blestem chinez suna cam asa: «Iti urez sa traiesti intr-o epoca interesanta!» Si a fost, intr-adevar, interesanta perioada copilariei si a adolescentei noastre, desi eram prea tineri ca sa intelegem mare lucru: unii au inteles mai repede, altii mai incet. Matei Cazacu Generatia Razboiului Rece Povestea generatiei noastre se confunda cu istoria Romaniei postbelice. Majoritatea celor care am trecut examenul de bacalaureat la liceul "Spiru Haret" in anul 1964 suntem nascuti in 1946 (77 de persoane dintr-un total de 119), anul marii secete a secolului al XX-lea, dar si al celor mai bune vinuri din ultima suta de ani. Ceilalti 43 de absolventi, reprezentand peste o treime din tota, sunt nascuti in 1947 (23), 1945 (14), 1944 (4) si 1943 (1). Putem deci afirma ca suntem reprezentantii generatiei denumite in Occident baby boomers, copii veniti pe lume in mare numar dupa razboi ca o reactie fireasca a vietii, a bucuriei de a trai, dupa imensele masacre de pe campurile de lupta si din lagarele mortii. Acesta este insa un concept american, deoarece Europa anilor de dupa razboi se transformase in ceea ce un istoric englez a numit recent the Savage Continent°, iar Europa de Rasarit ramanea in continuare bloodlands, dupa cum scrie Timothy Snyder. Asadar, noi suntem prima generatie de copii ai Razboiului Rece. Am intrat la scoala in clasa I in septembrie 1953, la cateva luni dupa moartea lui Stalin si la inceputul unei destinderi politice interne considerate a fi o adevarata destalinizare, in orice caz un regim mai putin fioros ca cel din anii precedenti, si in preajma celei mai grele ierni a secolului (peste 5 milioane de metri cubi de zapada cazuti intre 30 ianuarie si 3 februarie 1954). Am terminat liceul in anul 1964 in euforia "independentei" afirmate oficial prin Declaratia din aprilie, prin care Partidul Muncitoresc Roman refuza sa se implice in conflictul sino-sovietic si isi afirma, pe plan ideologic, echidistanta fata de cei doi colosi. In realitate, nu era vorba de simpatie pentru chinezi, ci de o contrapondere fata de puterea sovietica. Mao va condamna in mod public "sovinismul de mare putere° si raptul Basarabiei de catre Stalin. Deschiderea catre Occident si incetarea bruiajului posturilor de radio dujmanoase", pe de o parte, golirea inchisorilor de prizonieri politici, renuntarea la politica de persecutie a fostelor elite si mai ales a copiilor lor carora li s-a permis in sfarsit accesul pe merit la studii superioare, pe de alta, anuntau o normalizare a vietii publice pentru o societate care mai suferise o "glaciatiune" in perioada 1958-1962. MATEI CAZACU (nascut in 1946) este un istoric roman care traieste in Franta din anul 1973. Arhivist paleograf cu diploma de la Ecole Nationale des Chartes (1977), Doctor in istorie si civilizatie bizantina si post-bizantina al Universitatii Paris I Panthéon Sorbonne (1979). A predat la Universitatea Paris IV Sorbonne si la INALCO din Paris, a fost cercetator la CNRS (1979-2011).
